Creating food and habitat for wildlife in cities
Nature Makers Lab is transforming urban landscapes by bringing native species to city parks, schools, streets, coastlines and waterways.
We believe that when nature is doing well, humans do well. Everyone can play a part in creating spaces for biodiversity no matter your skillset or location at your disposal.
What we do
TINY FORESTS
We create real, biodiverse, self-sustaining native forests in spaces as small as 100m² using the world-renowned Miyawaki method.
We have planted over 1200 trees to date.
Check out our School Forests Programme.
INNOVATIVE CUSTOM SPACES
From edible hedgerows, fences, floating islands and multiple-layered streetscapes... We use design thinking methods to help you reinvent any location in the city with native species that can be used for food, forage, drinks or pollination.
NATURE-BASED LEARNING
We offer nature walks, workshops and can help design curriculums to learn more about the history and uses of local species, as well as ideas on how to grow and bring more biodiversity into your space.
Why native?
Growing native communities can…
Cool surroundings on a hot day
by up to 5°C
Provide food
and habitat
for 900+ species of birds and insects
Require ZERO maintenance
after the first 2-3 years
What People Are Saying
“We have been so fortunate to have Nature Makers Lab work with our students in planting our school's mini Miyawaki forest. The entire process from planning, planting and running follow-up workshops has been superb. The students have been able to gain a wealth of new skills and knowledge thanks to Camilla and her team.
— Ho Mei Chau, ICHK Outdoor Learning Leader
“This work is amazing. Now everywhere I look in the city I’m thinking about where a forest can be. As a family who loves nature, we really appreciate opportunities like this to get our kids interested and aware about the environment.
— Parent of Forest School student
“Camilla and her team of dedicated environmentalists made the planting sessions and workshops not only educational but enjoyable and engaging for all of the Year 4/5 students. It not only increased the biodiversity of our natural environment but contributed to helping our students appreciate and learn more about Hong Kong flora. We will continue to explore ways to partner with Nature Makers Lab. Their expertise is such a valuable resource for students and teachers.
— Dianne Hill, Sha Tin Junior School
“We learned a lot of new things during the planting and it was more organized than others we have been to. Everything was well thought out and went incredibly smoothly. I highly recommend!”

The more our world functions like the natural world,
the more likely we are to endure on this home that is ours,
but not ours alone.
